The MPR Archive has existed for over a decade, assigned to preserve and maintain material in MPR’s history, present curated audio collections for public cultural and educational usage, social media interaction, and community collaborations. These efforts are further instructed by MPR’s greater mission in amplifying voices to inform, include, and inspire.
The majority of MPR Archive’s collection is found in The Comer Archive, an environmentally controlled space which securely stores hundreds of thousands of hours of analog reels, tapes, and CDs. There is also a swath of other material preserved by the department: videos, publications, ephemera, images, props, digital born material...even an occasional vintage MPR coffee mug.
The MPR Archive department consists of a director, archivist, audio engineers, cataloger, interns, and volunteers.
