Deserving

LISTEN:Deserving

Minnesota's forfeiture law will likely be up for debate during the next legislative session. A recent report alleges members of the Metro Gang Strike Force seized items such as power tools, appliances and even an ice auger because the officers believed the individuals who owned them didn't "deserve" them. University of Minnesota Law Professor Stephen Simon says the problem isn't with the forfeiture laws but with the strike force members. He says they should have handed out notices to the property owners that if they wanted to challenge the forfeiture, they needed to do it within 60 days.
