Shaman ceremony Share

A Hmong shaman held a ceremony yesterday at what used to be a Hmong funeral home to prepare the site for redevelopment. The facility was the first in St. Paul to specialize in traditional Hmong funerals, which typically last for days and involve plenty of food and music. But after the owner closed it, the city worked with neighborhood groups to purchase the building for redevelopment. Tait Danielson Castillo of the District 7 Planning Council says it was important for his group to get advice from the Hmong community before moving ahead with another project at the site.
