SPEAKER: I want you guys to know-- I want you to know that, when we are in the Congress, fighting for you there, Betty McCollum is a leading voice for the people of this country, for peace, for health care, for everything that our country needs. I want to hear you make some noise for Betty right now.

[CHEERING, APPLAUSE]

That's right. That's more like it. That's more like it. Let me tell you guys something.

AUDIENCE: [YELLING]

SPEAKER: That's right. We are at the birth-- we are at the point of something big in America. We are at the point when our country is ready.

We have seen three decades of stagnant wages. We have seen warmongers. We have seen a foreign policy, where presidents actually believe that they can make war and fight wars for oil that is in somebody else's land. We have seen this kind of thing, and American people are ready for a big change. And I want to know, are you ready for the change?

AUDIENCE: Ready!

SPEAKER: Are you ready to walk into this?

AUDIENCE: We're ready!

SPEAKER: Are you ready for the change? Are you ready to walk into the future right now?

[CHEERING, APPLAUSE]

That's what I need to hear, you guys, because let me tell you something. I want to congratulate everybody here who came up really passionate for their candidate. We had a spirited debate. We fought for our candidate, the one we wanted to push. That's all right. That's OK, because when we leave this hall today, we are going to be one United DFL party. Is that right?

[CHEERING, APPLAUSE]

That's right. That's right. And you know what? There ain't nothing wrong with a little brotherly and sisterly competition among us Democrats. Steel sharpens steel. We make ourselves better when we debate with each other. We make ourselves better when we refine our positions and strengthen our weak points. | do that and we help each other.

And I want to hear everybody congratulate Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer And Al Franken. Let's hear it for both of them right now.

[CHEERING, APPLAUSE]

That's right. Because we are leaving this hall one party. One party. We are leaving this hall together. We don't have-- we do not have the luxury to fold our arms and turn our backs on each other. Am I right or wrong?

[CHEERING]

We can't afford that. We can't afford that because that is the kind of thing that loses elections. And if we got to do one thing in November, it is to win elections. Is that right?

[CHEERING]

We got to deliver for the people. We got to come through for the people here in Minnesota, all over America, and really all around this world. You guys, God bless you and keep you. You know Betty and I love you. We'll be fighting for you. Let's get out there and win.
