Testimony of Hmong grave desecration

LISTEN:Testimony of Hmong grave desecration
00:00--:--

State Hmong leaders gathered testimony on grave desecration on Sunday in advance of a national conference on the issue in North Carolina later this month. The Minnesota chapter of the national Hmong Grave Desecration Committee has been working since 2005 to resolve a dispute with Thai officials over the exhumation of nearly 1,000 Hmong graves. The bodies were dug up without the permission of relatives and many were cremated. The graves were located in a traditional Hmong cemetery near a Buddhist temple in Thailand where many of the families had once lived as refugees. Spokesman Michael Yang says the grave desecration is an outrage that has mobilized many in the Hmong community.
