Minneapolis would be able to hire 43 new police officers next year under the new budget proposal presented by Mayor R.T. Rybak. If approved the city would see 114 new police officers by the end of 2007. Rybak says public safety is his top priority, and his budget calls for nearly 200 million dollars for crime fighting efforts. Minneapolis has seen a rise in violent crime since last year, and Rybak says the city needs to put resources where they are most needed.
