LISTEN:Trafficking victims
00:00--:--

A bill scheduled to be heard before the Senate Crime Prevention and Public Safety committee today proposes spending 200-thousand dollars on a task-force to combat international human trafficking in the state. A trafficking victim is someone who is brought into the country by fraud or coercion, and is compelled to work in the sex industry or do other forced labor. State officials don't have hard numbers yet on how many trafficking victims there are in Minnesota, but estimates range from dozens to more than one hundred. Danette Buskovick, a researcher for the Department of Public Safety's Office of Justice Programs is authoring the legislative study on human trafficking.
