More than two dozen experts in Hmong culture and history will be at Concordia University this weekend for the first-ever International Conference on Hmong Studies. The gathering is attracting scholars from as far away as China and Australia, as well as the Twin Cities and other parts of the United States. Le Pao Xiong is the director of the Center for Hmong Studies at Concordia. He says workshops will cover a range of topics such as religion, human rights and detention-and-deportation.
