The Asian American Renaissance was a community based Asian American arts organization started in 1992 and held an Asian American Arts Conference in the Twin Cities. At that conference, Rick Shiomi and Dong-il Lee started a conversation that led to the founding of Theater Mu. AAR held classes and published a literary magazine, The Journal of the Asian American Renaissance.
