MPR’s Martin Granger interviews author Benjamin Spock about his writing and political criticism of him from individuals such as Spiro T. Agnew and Norman Vincent Peale.
Spock refutes claim that he promoted instant gratification in his book Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care and in his child rearing philosophy, but does promote less rigid practices that he believed were becoming prevalent. While he promotes discipline over bewildered flexibility, Spock also states love, and not necessarily discipline, creates confidence in children.
