April 5, 2004 - The Minnesota Twins open their season tonight with a home game against the Cleveland Indians. Former Twins great and Baseball Hall of Famer Rod Carew will throw the ceremonial first pitch. During the off-season, the Twins lost key players through free agency -- and traded others to cut payroll. General Manager Terry Ryan says he doesn't think the roster changes will stop the Twins from winning a third straight division title.
January 4, 2002 - MPR's Tom Scheck reports that the Minnesota Twins may not be a team next year but at least they have a new manager. The team announced third base coach Ron Gardenhire will receive a two year guaranteed contract to replace Tom Kelly, contraction or not.
October 12, 2001 - MPR's Tom Scheck reports that Minnesota Twins manager Tom Kelly says he's stepping down after 15 full seasons. Under Kelly's tenure, the Twins won two World Series championships in 1987 and 1991. This year, the Twins finished second in the American League Central, snapping an eight year run of losing seasons.
June 5, 2001 - MPR's William Wilcoxen reports on The Minnesota Twins making St. Paul's Joe Mauer the first pick in Major League Baseball's 2001 draft of amateur players. Mauer is a three-sport star at Cretin-Derham Hall High School, who is ranked among the best athletes the Twin Cities have ever produced.
