April 8, 1992 - MPR’s reporter Joe Kelly presents the documentary “AIDS Lives Here.” The report looks at five Minnesota women who carry HIV. Women with the HIV virus, which leads to AIDS, face the same inevitable outcome as men, but their experiences are different. For example, women who have the AIDS virus are often not diagnosed as early as men. Moreover, it seems women with HIV are more frequently stigmatized and isolated as a result of having the disease.
November 2, 1991 - Weekend Edition’s Jim Wishner talks with MPR reporters Rich Dietman(KZSE-Rochester) and Joe Kelly(WSCN-Duluth/Superior) about storm impact outside the metro area. Both are at home, as their respective stations are off the air due to storm.
March 23, 1991 - MPR’s Joe Kelly reports on the effects from an ice storm in Duluth that left all TV and radio stations off the air. The large 850-foot WDIO broadcast TV tower toppled to the ground due to ice and wind.
January 18, 1990 - MPR’s Joe Kelly visits Grand Marais and reports on the battle over shoreline regulations. After initial attempts at a state and federal management plan, local residents created the North Shore Management Board, with a plan for environmental protection and orderly growth along the North Shore.
December 6, 1989 - Jim Oberstar, Minnesota U.S. congressman (DFL), discusses various political topics, including Soviet Union, El Salvador, and legislative votes.
September 21, 1989 - MPR’s Joe Kelly presents a Radio Town Meeting program from the Twin Ports studios. The topic is the problems and challenges of small schools. Program begins with a report, followed by interviews with Meridel Kahl, professor in the education department at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth; and Troy Mattson, a freshman at Hamline University in St. Paul. Kahl and Mattson also answer listener questions.
