Fugard's address is on the topic "Port Elizabeth Roots: The Art, Life and Politics of South African Playwriting." The 55-year-old Fugard has drawn his writings and characters from the dispossessed of the fringes of South African culture. His plays include "'Master Harold'...and the Boys" performed at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis four years ago.
